An opening note
It begins
before the front door.
The experience begins before the door opens. The shape of a roof, a shaded walk, the sound of water: each can change how we feel on arrival. We’ll look at how planting, paving and garden walls reinforce the architecture and frame the approach to the front door.
Then comes the entry. Where does your eye go first, and what draws you farther in? A glimpse of a courtyard might invite you forward. A change in ceiling height might make a room feel intimate or expansive. We’ll notice the weight of the door, the space to pause and the ease of finding your way.
Room by room, we’ll ask how the choices work together. How does the floor feel underfoot? Does the lighting flatter the room and provide enough light to cook, read or work? Do the ceiling, cabinetry and plumbing fixtures work together in scale, material and finish? The revealing detail may be a carefully aligned joint, a well-placed faucet or a switch exactly where your hand expects it.
We’ll also ask who the home works for. A generous kitchen island can gather friends or interrupt the route to the terrace. An open plan can encourage conversation or leave someone searching for a quiet place to work. Space for guests, privacy, storage and comfortable movement deserve the same attention as the finishes.
In Arizona, the walk continues outside. We’ll follow the transition from room to terrace and consider the view alongside the experience of being there: shade over a dining table, privacy around the pool, a comfortable place to sit after sunset.
And when we leave, what stays with us? A room’s proportions. A surprising view. A detail we want to revisit. Our features will explain those lasting impressions and the choices behind them.
